This Thursday at French Corner we’ll commemorate Bastille Day (le Quatorze juillet) with a fun contest to sing the famous French national anthem, La Marseillaise.

French corner begins at 5:30pm as usual, and contest begins 7pm on Thurs. Best rendition of the hymn as judged by applause wins the Diskuto Certificate of Singing Excellence, and a delicious pastry.

For those new to the anthem, lyric sheets will be passed out. Study the lyrics here. You can find many Youtube clips as well, like the one below. Note that we will only sing the first verse, and the chorus.

Time and place: Thursdays 5:30-7:30pm in Philosopher’s Walk behind the Music department building. Check the forecast and dress appropriately.

About

Pat founded Diskuto so he could keep meeting amazing people and keep speaking new languages he learned. He was born and grew up in Toronto, the most multilingual city on Earth. He speaks one language well (English), two languages passably (French, Italian), three languages badly (German, Spanish, Russian), and six languages hardly at all (Latin, Ancient Greek, Arabic; Mandarin, Japanese, Portuguese). He can read HTML, CSS and PHP but it’s hard to have a conversation in those. He is also the editor of torontolanguages.com.
